Take a look at who relies on contraception: 58 percent of women use it for purposes OTHER than family planning.

The last two times I took oral contraception, it was to calm down my cramps and what not. A couple of days a week, every month, I can barely function. I had negative side effects and opted not to continue.
To be on certain kinds of acne medication, you need an oral contraceptive to regulate your hormones.
Some women have periods all over the fucking calendar and oral contraceptives help them regulate it.
I think these “houses of worship”, run mostly by men, should grow the fuck up.

I have endometriosis. A painful condition in which the endometrium (the uterin lining) does not completley exit the body. Instead it attaches itself to other parts within the body. It can (and praise the Lord it hasn’t) float as far as the brain, it can hang on in your rectum, etc. And when your period comes the areas where the tissue attached bleeds as well.
In my case it chose my ovaries. When I decided to come off of BC for a few years I found out about this condition as I began to experience pain in my side. I didn’t know what was going on. painful periods for me were the norm. I go to the doctor they put me back on BC.  I didn’t like the side effects. I came off.
a year later I’m on the way  to work at 6 am. walking down a dark subway like terminal when I suddenly feel like i’m going to pass out. It was like I was walking through mollasses. I felt high and slow….
I called my mom who was at home and near by. We go to the local hospital where after a few exams I am rushed to a women’s hospital for emergency surgery.
The endometriosis had cysts that overtime grew because I WAS NOT on bc. One of my cysts ruptured. I was bleeding to death.  I was 23 and celebate.
If I come off of birth control the endo can make it impossible for me to have children as the scar tissue blocks the eggs from  attaching or even being released in some cases. I can also grow cysts again.
BC shrunk my cysts down and I thank God for that.
Also, I’m not celebate anymore. I’m not married. I don’t know when or even if that will happen. I know I am NOT ready for children. Even if I didn’t have a medical condition I would be on birthcontrol for the simple fact that I don’t want to a have a child right now. Eventually sure, but not now.

I have endometriosis too (which is why my periods would be so heavy and my cramps so bad to the point where I could not function). My periods used to be damn near debilitating. I never comment when people go in about horrible BC is because it’s been a life saver for me and I have been on it since I was 16. Honestly, the fact that I will not get pregnant is just a happy side bar in my opinion.

I take birth control because my periods don’t come regularly, without bc they will come probably like 4 times a year. While most women think this is a gift from heaven, it’s not. Not having periods is not good for you because there is a build up of gunk in your uterus and it can be cancerous (so my doctor told me). The fact that bc is a contraceptive is a cherry on top.
